Out and about at last: Herstmonceux & walk from Glynde

We visited Herstmonceux Castle Gardens at the end of March, and although the magnolias weren’t quite out fully it was still lovely to see what was coming up. It was actually quite warm that day – we stupidly thought it would stay that way into April, how wrong we were…

We encountered a peacock who very obligingly threw up his tail for us! This was an absolutely stunning moment, rather hard to convey in the photos.

Then the other day we took a train to Glynde and walked over the Downs to Lewes, a walk we’ve done many times in the past, but not for a few years now. It was magical – sunny, panoramic views, virtually nobody about but the sheep and Spring lambs.

Once in Lewes, we found it bustling, and settled down outside the Gardener’s Arms for our first pub pints in nearly six months!
