About

What the musician and the poet did next.

We moved from a four-storey town centre cottage in Lewes to a period flat in Eastbourne after thirteen years, much to many people’s surprise. We were looking for all the things we couldn’t afford in Lewes – more living space, fresh air, easy parking and a garden – and we’ve found it here. We still have the Sussex Downs on our doorstep, plus the sea at the end of our road.

This blog is mostly about our home – improvements, decoration, furnishings, learning about the building and its history, auction finds, art, collectibles….oh and taming a wild garden. It’s the ground floor of an 1880s house which was converted into five flats in the 1950s. The style is what you might call high Victorian gothic, complete with quirky decorative details, high ceilings and massive windows. it needed a lot doing when we moved in, and we’re having a fantastic time making it ours.

I also blog about our new lives in Eastbourne – living, working, creating & playing.

Ha ha! I can’t help myself… floor envy? If you mean the tiled hall… it’s very cold underfoot, so we may be covering it over (but not vandalising it, promise!)

Love this blog! As a newbie to Eastbourne myself and also doing up an Edwardian terrace here, I like to check in and get some inspiration! Can you let me know which company sanded and varnished your floor, please. I need some similar work doing. Thanks

Hi Rebecca, great to virtually meet you and thanks for reading! We used floorsandingpartners.co.uk – they are based in Hove. They did it all in a day which was a bit amazing. Their quote was also very competitive. Let me know if you blog about your project, I’d love to see what you’re doing! All best, Robin
